Leadership Opportunities
We have many leadership opportunities for our scholars.
Student Council
Scholars vote and elect a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Class Commissioners for each grade level. Scholars conduct meetings and carry out many activities on campus.
Leadership Class
Here scholars perform many activities that support our school. They are leaders on campus, they plan and run assemblies throughout the year, they run our student store, they plan dances that include food sales, photo booth, and numerous games for scholars. They have lunch with 5th and 6th grade students that need role models and encouragement from their peers. These are just a few of the activities they perform.
CJSF
California Junior Scholarship Federation on an Honors group available to all 7th and 8th grade scholars who have achieved a 3.5 grade point average and above. They are an honor service group who meet once monthly. Members are required to earn 20 service hours of volunteer work through the school year. Scholars who have been members at least two trimesters in a year will automatically become members of California Scholarship Federation (CSF) once they are in high school.
AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination is an elective for scholars who have the dream of attending college once they graduate high school. The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially students that need some assistance, are capable of completing a college preparatory path.
The goal of AVID it to produce scholars who will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum, enter mainstream activities of the school, increase enrollment in four year colleges, and become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
Scholars are responsible for focused note-taking, depth of knowledge questioning, tutorials, and WICOR: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. AVID scholars also help in binder checks throughout the school, helping their peers with many AVID activities.

Step-Up
A group of scholars wanting to become leaders. Scholars attend a summer school session where they do a book study and attend various field trips throughout California. They also perform improvements of the campus such as our stallion mural. Their big event is planning a Carnival of Hope for the homeless that supplies resources, activities, services, and food to help those in the community that are in need.
Roosevelt Class Aides and Class Buddies
Scholars have a period where they are an active aide in a Kindergarten-4th grade class at Roosevelt. There are also 5th grade classes that team up with Kindergarten classes and scholars read and do activities together.
