Clubs and Activities

Participating in extracurricular activities and clubs is another great way to get a well-rounded education. Preparing and planning for activities requires students to be present and to learn leadership skills and the fundamentals of teamwork early on. The additional skills and opportunities provided by our school-sponsored clubs are a great way to get ahead and make your child’s education count.

Check back often for updates and exciting news about new clubs and extracurricular opportunities.

Band

Advanced Band - The premiere ensemble at Mulcahy, this class is for seventh and eighth grade students who have had at least one year of instruction on their instrument. This class performs as a marching band during the fall season and as a concert band during the spring season. Our performances include the Tulare Fair Parade, Tulare Band Review, and the CMEA Concert Band Festival. This ensemble is based on the director’s approval and recommendations.

Intermediate Band - Designed for seventh and eighth grade students who have never played an instrument before or a student wanting to learn a different instrument than the instrument he/she plays in advanced band. The intermediate band performs at school functions throughout the year.

Jazz Ensemble - Composed of the finest performers from our advanced band, the jazz ensemble performs a varied style of music ranging from swing, Latin, funk, and rock music. It is an audition-only ensemble, meaning the student will have to wait on the director’s approval for entrance into the ensemble. The jazz ensemble performs at various rated music festivals throughout the Central Valley scoring very well.

Orchestra – This is the ensemble for seventh and eighth grade string students (violin, viola, cello, and double bass). We rehearse and prepare for various music festivals throughout the Central Valley. We perform a varied style of music ranging from classical to Broadway musicals.

Drumline - The ensemble is the newest addition to the Mulcahy music department, and it is a great class. The drumline is modeled after professional drumlines such as the Concord Blue Devils and the Santa Clara Vanguard. We will perform for various school functions and various winter/spring festivals. Drumming experience is required for this class.

California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF)

CJSF emphasizes school and community involvement while highlighting the importance of academics. Students must qualify for the program by maintaining good grades and later on become CSF (California Scholarship Federation) in high school.

Colorguard

Mulcahy Colorguard works together as a team to bring color and showmanship to the Alice G. Mulcahy Middle School Marching Band. 7th and 8th grade girls are selected in May based on their grades, behavior, and ability to perform. Our girls represent all the characteristics of P.R.I.D.E. and are proud to represent the spirit of Mulcahy.

Student Council

Students develop leadership, organization, and management skills by participating in the student council. Students in student council are expected to be positive role models, maintain an appropriate GPA, and attend school regularly.

Extracurricular Activities

Throughout the school year, we hold a variety of extracurricular activities including athletics, assemblies, dances, graduation, music concerts, drama, special noon activities, and other various school-related functions not directly related to a course requirement. We consider participation in these activities to be a privilege, not a right. As such, we require students to adhere to school rules and the dress code during all extracurricular activities held on or off the school campus.
